Special Needs Education

Werribee Primary School provides an extensive Integration Program supporting students with a variety of needs. This program is supported by an enthusiastic integration staff.

The Integration Program provides specialised groups that work intensively with students in the following:

Autism Group

Children on the Autism Spectrum and Aspergers Syndrome make up this group and work together to develop positive social skills and behaviors, communication and language skills in a small group setting.

Behaviour Groups

Students participate in a combination of activities, exercise and discussions which focus on building friendships, developing confidence in social interactions and which provide an awareness of self and others.

Anti Bullying Groups

Staff provide activities and peer discussions to help students develop resilience strategies and the ability to recognise bullying behaviors in themselves and others.

Daily Living Groups

Participants work in small groups to develop skills which are practical for functioning in society, as well as providing them with opportunities to expand their social conversation and relationships.

In addition...

Integration collaborates with a number of outside agencies including Travancore, Western Autism School, Western English Language School, Royal Victorian Institute for the Blind (RVIB) and Yooralla to assist with programs for specific needs of individual children.

The program also works closely with community groups such as Mamborin, Anglicare and aged care home Villa Franca. Students attend these facilities to assist, understand and support those less fortunate than themselves.
